Objective

Cribbage Pool is a card game based on the classic version of Cribbage but with a twist variant that includes gambling aspects. The objective of the game is to be the first to reach a predetermined point score by making moves that score points based on card values.

Game Components

  • A standard 52-card deck, Jokers are not used.
  • A Cribbage board or a means to tally score points.
  • Pens or markers to keep track of scores.
  • A type of "Pool" for holding bets, such as a glass or a bowl.

Setup

  1. Determine the play order of players. Usually, age or a random selection by drawing cards is used.
  2. Each player pays a predetermined amount into the pool as a stake.
  3. Shuffle the deck and deal 6 cards to each player.

Gameplay

  1. Basic Play:
  2. Each player sets aside 2 cards face down from their hand. These cards form the "Crib" and belong to the dealer for that round.
  3. The remaining cards are used for the game play.

  4. The first player lays down a card and announces its value.

  5. The next player lays down a card, adding its value to the previous total, not exceeding 31; otherwise, start a new count.
  6. During counting, certain combinations score points:
  7. Pairs: Two same cards one after another score 2 points.
  8. Runs: Sequences of 3 or more cards score points according to the length.
  9. 15 count: Reaching exactly 15 equals 2 points.
  10. 31 count: Exactly hitting 31 also scores 2 points.

  11. If a player cannot lay down a card without exceeding 31, their turn ends, and the next player starts a new count.

  12. When no cards remain for all players, the points are tallied.
  13. The Crib is counted by the dealer.

Scoring and Winning

  • A player wins the game by being the first to reach the agreed amount of points.
  • The winner of the round receives the "Pool."
  • The game ends when the set number of rounds or a pre-determined time limit is reached if no player reaches the point tally earlier.

Strategic Tips

  • Card Holding: Save cards for plays that can yield higher point combinations.
  • Pool Tactics: Use the pool to apply pressure on fellow players with well-calculated bets.
  • Bluffing: Utilize body language to indicate strong or weak hands to influence other player's decisions.

Cribbage Pool is a game that requires both strategic thinking and fortunate draws, making it dynamic and exciting.
