Objective
Polish Draughts, or Polish Checkers, is a variant of the classic checkers game where the objective is to capture all of the opponent's pieces or block them so that the opponent cannot move.
Game Components
- A 10x10 checkerboard
- 20 white and 20 black pieces
Number of Players
Two players are required, one playing with the white pieces and the other with the black pieces.
Preparation
- Each player arranges their 20 pieces on the first four rows of the 10x10 board. Pieces are placed only on the dark squares, similar to standard checkers.
- The white pieces occupy the bottom four rows, and the black pieces occupy the top four rows.
Basic Rules
-
Move: A piece may move diagonally forward to an adjacent unoccupied dark square.
-
Capture: A piece can capture an opponent's piece by jumping over it, provided the square immediately beyond is empty. Multiple jumps are allowed and often necessary.
-
King Promotion: A piece reaching the opponent's back row becomes a "King." A King can move any number of squares diagonally in any direction and is allowed to capture both forward and backward.
-
Compulsory Capturing: If a capture is possible, it must be made. If multiple captures are available, the player can choose which piece to capture.
-
Winning: A player wins by capturing all opponent's pieces or blocking the opponent's moves entirely.
Strategic Tips
- Positioning: Try to position your pieces to block your side of the board effectively while observing the opponent's setup.
- Utilize multi-jumps: Plan your moves to capture multiple opposing pieces in a single turn.
- Protect your Kings: Use your Kings to keep pressure on the opponent, but protect them from unnecessary risks.
Good luck and enjoy playing Polish Draughts!
