Objective of the Game

In Temple of Horrors, your objective is either to find and retrieve the treasures of the temple as an Adventurer or to hide them and lure adventurers into traps as a Guardian. This is a bluffing and negotiation game with hidden identities.

Game Components

• 49 Room Cards (15 treasures, 14 traps, 20 empty rooms)
• 2 Decks: one for Adventure cards (3-11 cards depending on the number of players), one for Guardian cards (1-4 cards)
• 1 Overview board

Game Setup

1. Shuffle the identity cards and deal one to each player. Take a look at your own card quietly to determine whether you're an Adventurer or a Guardian.
2. Create a deck of room cards according to the number of players as described in the rulebook.
3. Distribute an equal number of these room cards to each player (so each player receives the same number of room cards).
4. Each player places their room cards face down in front of them.

How to Play

The game is played over several rounds, each consisting of the following phases:

1. Preparation

• At the beginning of a round, a starting player is determined.

2. Exploration

1. Choosing a Starting Player: The current starting player chooses a room to explore. They may also choose to explore another player's room. No hints or tips may be given about the cards.
2. Open Room: The chosen room is revealed. Depending on the card, the following happens:
3. Treasure: The starting player collects the treasure card. Adventurers benefit from discovered treasures.
4. Trap: The starting player is out for this round. Guardians benefit from unveiled traps.
5. Empty Room: Nothing happens.
6. The used room is set aside.
7. The next player becomes the starting player, and the process repeats until all rooms are explored or identified.

Winning the Game

• The game ends immediately when all room cards are revealed.
• The Adventurers win if they discover more than half of the treasures.
• The Guardians win if the adventurers fall into enough traps or not enough treasures are gathered.

Strategic Tips

• Lying and creating confusion is crucial to hiding your identity.
• Carefully observe other players' behavior to draw conclusions about their identity.
• Don't be too aggressive - experienced players can detect such behavior easily.
