Objective of the Game
Hunter: The Reckoning is a role-playing game where players take on the roles of hunters, tasked with combating supernatural threats. The main objective is to protect their communities from these dangers while maintaining their own lives and humanity.
Setup
- Character Creation: Each player creates a hunter character by using templates from the rulebook and makes choices regarding skills, equipment, and backstories. Characters can take on various roles such as leader, bruiser, or scout.
- Select a Game Master: One player assumes the role of the "Storyteller" or game master, who guides the narrative and controls non-player characters (NPCs) and supernatural beings.
Gameplay
- Establish the Scenario: The Storyteller describes the current situation and sets up the scenario using narrative elements.
- Character Actions: Each player describes the actions their character wishes to take in the given situation, which can involve social interactions, exploration, or combat.
- Using Dice Rolls: Most actions require dice rolls. Typically, ten-sided dice (d10) are used. Players roll a certain number based on their character's attributes and skills and count successes as per the Storyteller’s guidelines.
- Reactions and Interludes: The Storyteller describes the consequences of actions, introduces new elements into the game, and advances the plot.
- Gaining Experience: Players earn experience points by achieving goals or overcoming challenges, which can be used for character progression.
Strategic Considerations
- Utilize Character Roles: Differences in character roles play a significant strategic part, as different challenges require varied approaches.
- Manage Resources: Hunters have limited resources like ammunition and equipment that need to be used wisely.
- Emphasize Collaboration: Teamwork and proper role distribution are essential to secure the group's survival and successfully complete missions.
