Objective of the Game
The objective of Shit Happens is to correctly order the unfortunate events depicted on the cards based on how bad they are rated in the game. Each player aims to be the first to arrange a row of ten cards correctly.
Components
- A deck of cards, each assigned a "Misery Index". These cards depict various embarrassing or uncomfortable situations rated with a value from 1 to 100.
- A reference sheet with the Misery Index values.
Setup
- Shuffle the cards and deal three cards face-up to each player. The remaining cards form the draw pile.
- Players arrange their cards in front of them according to the Misery Index values, without seeing the exact values.
- Draw a card from the draw pile and place it, without revealing the value, face-up in the middle of the table.
Gameplay
- Player's Turn: A player draws the top card from the draw pile.
- Objective: The player must guess where the newly drawn card fits among the cards already laid out, based on their guess of the Misery Index.
- Action: If the player places the card correctly, they keep it and add it to their row. If incorrect, the card is discarded, and the next round begins.
- Repeat: Play continues clockwise, with each player taking turns until a player arranges the required number of cards.
Ending the Game
The game ends when a player has correctly ordered ten cards. That player is declared the winner.
Strategic Tips
- Observation: Pay attention to how your opponents place their cards. This can give you clues about Misery Index values you haven't encountered yet.
- Speculation: Often, there is a logical connection between events, such as health issues, social embarrassments, or awkward incidents, which can help estimate the value.
This game is perfect for larger groups and induces a lot of laughter and discussions about those "shitty" events that might actually happen in life.
