Objective
The goal of Akaba is to be the first to collect all the required goods and display them securely in your market. Players assume the role of flying carpet pilots, navigating their carpets across the board by blowing to reach different goods.
Components
- 1 game board
- 4 flying carpets (made from sturdy cardboard, moved by blowing)
- 1 bellows
- 12 market spaces
- Various goods tokens
- 4 start and finish spaces
- 5 wind cards
Setup
- Place the game board in the center of the table.
- Each player gets a flying carpet and places it on the corresponding start space.
- Shuffle and distribute the goods tokens face-down on the market spaces.
- The bellows is placed within reach.
- Each player receives an overview card with the goods they need to collect.
Gameplay
- Players take turns in a clockwise direction.
- The active player takes the bellows and attempts to move the flying carpet by blowing towards a market space.
- Once the carpet stops on a market space, the player may look at the goods token there, and if needed, place it on their overview card.
- After this, the next player takes their turn.
- If the carpet falls off the board, it is returned to the last visited market space.
- Wind Cards: At the start of each turn, a wind card may be played, offering special effects like extra moves or direction changes.
Winning the Game
The first player to collect all the necessary goods and display them in their market wins the game.
Strategic Tips
- Aim strategically: Focus on aiming at market spaces that still have uncollected needed goods.
- Safe landings: Ensure your carpet doesn’t fall by practicing controlled use of the bellows and approaching from the sidelines.
- Effective Wind Card use: Use the benefits of wind cards wisely to reach your goals before your opponents or to hinder them.
Akaba is a game that requires both skill and strategy. Both children and adults can enjoy blowing their flying carpet across the board and collecting coveted goods.
