Objective
The objective of Over 12 is dead is for players to take turns rolling dice and trying not to exceed a total sum of 12. Once a player exceeds the sum of 12, they are eliminated from the game. The game continues until only one player remains.
Requirements
- Number of Players: At least 2 players
- Game Materials: Two six-sided dice
Gameplay
-
Starting the Game: The youngest player begins the game. The order of play proceeds clockwise.
-
Rolling the Dice: Each player rolls both dice on their turn. The number shown on both dice is added together.
-
Magic Number 12: After each roll, the player's total score is increased by the sum of their current roll. If a player exceeds the sum of 12 during their turn, they are eliminated from the game.
-
Pass or Continue Rolling: A player can choose to stop (pass) after any roll, holding their current score, or continue rolling to apply pressure on opponents. This involves strategic decision-making, balancing risk and caution.
-
Ending the Game: The game ends when only one player remains who has not exceeded a total of 12. This player is declared the winner.
Strategy Tips
-
Risk vs. Safety: It's often wise to pass early if you have a low score. However, aggressive playing, where you roll more and risk exceeding 12, can work if opponents already have high scores and are likely to bust on their next roll.
-
Observation: Keep an eye on other players' scores. If several players are nearing 12, it might be worth pushing them further rather than playing it safe.
Special Situations
- Doubles: If a player rolls a double (where both dice show the same number), they get an extra turn. This brings the opportunity to apply significant pressure on others but also increases the risk of exceeding the magic 12.
