Objective of the Game

Elchfest is a dexterity game in which two players compete against each other to lead their moose across a river. Each player tries to be the first to move their moose from one riverbank to the other by hopping on stones (wooden discs).

Game Components

  • 2 wooden moose figures in different colors
  • 6 stones (wooden discs)
  • A board that serves as the river

Setup

  1. Each player chooses a moose figure and places it on one of the shores of the board.
  2. Three stones (wooden discs) are placed in the middle of the board, evenly distributed.

Gameplay

  • Players take turns, and each turn consists of two possible actions:
  • Pushing a Stone: The player may push an existing stone with a finger as far as they can. The stone must remain on the board after pushing.
  • Jumping the Moose: If possible, the player moves their moose—from stone to stone—toward the opposite shore. The moose cannot cross the river where there are no stones. The moose must be placed stably on each stone, not just with its snout.

Winning the Game

  • The first player to successfully move their moose to the opposite shore wins the game.

Strategic Tips

  • It's essential to plan the positioning of stones to create a clear and direct path for your moose.
  • Simultaneously, try to impede the opponent's moose by strategically removing or moving stones.
  • Precision in pushing the stones is crucial to ensure an efficient route.
  • Sometimes, attempting riskier pushes may be worth it to gain a decisive edge.

Elchfest is not overly complex, quick to learn, and provides a mix of strategy, dexterity, and a touch of luck.
