Break In - A Breakout Game
Objective of the Game: The goal of "Break In" is for players to work together as a team to "escape" or break into a scenario presented within the game by solving puzzles and piecing together clues to make progress. The unique twist in "Break In" games is that players literally work their way through the game components to proceed from one level to the next, discovering new parts of the game as they go.
Materials Needed
- The "Break In" game set, which includes the box and all the puzzles and clues contained within.
- A timer (often recommended for added difficulty, though this is optional).
- Pen and paper might be helpful for taking notes.
Setup
- Explore Game Components: At the start, players examine the outside of the game box. There's often the first hints or details indicating how to start the game.
- Check the Rules: Read the introduction and rules, commonly found in the rulebook or on the box. These will explain specific elements or mechanics of the game.
- Set the Timer: If you want to make the game more challenging, set a timer to a preferred duration (usually 60-90 minutes).
Gameplay
- Solve Puzzles: Players work together to solve puzzles. This can involve piecing together objects, decoding combinations, or finding hidden clues.
- Interact with Game Materials: A unique aspect of "Break In" is the physical interaction with the game materials, which often requires "opening" or revealing parts of the box to gain new information.
- Unlock the Next Level: Once a particular puzzle or set of puzzles is solved, the next level of the game is unlocked. This typically leads players deeper into the scenario or provides new puzzles to solve.
- Collaboration is Key: Communication is essential, players must work together and share information to effectively solve the puzzles.
Tips and Strategies
- Communication: Keep in constant contact to make sure all information is shared.
- Time Management: Whether with or without the timer, keeping an eye on the time can help maximize progress.
- Creative Thinking: Many puzzles require thinking outside the box or looking at a problem from different angles.
Winning the Game
- The game is won by solving all puzzles and achieving the final goal, which typically means escaping from the game box or completing the scenario.
- If a timer is used, the group is considered particularly successful if they achieve the objective before time runs out.
Note: "Break In" can usually only be played once, as the puzzles and solutions will be known once revealed, similar to an exit game.
