Objective of the Game

Salta is a board game aimed at moving all your pieces to the opposite starting area of your opponent, while simultaneously trying to block the movements of your opponent. The first player to successfully relocate all their pieces to the target zone wins the game.

Game Materials

  • A game board with 100 squares arranged in a 10x10 grid.
  • Each player has 15 pieces of one color (commonly Red and White).
  • The starting setup is on the first three rows of each player's side.

Game Setup

  1. Place the game board between the two players.
  2. Each player places their 15 pieces on the first three rows on their side of the board.
  3. The middle four rows remain initially empty.

Gameplay

  • Salta is played alternately. A starting player is chosen randomly.
  • Pieces may only move orthogonally or diagonally.
  • A piece can only move to an adjacent empty square, or by jumping over an opponent's piece, similar to Checkers.
  • Chain Moves: If after a jump another jump is possible, the piece can jump multiple steps in one turn, provided it always moves diagonally or orthogonally.

Special Features

  • Blocking: Try to block your opponent’s pieces to delay or prevent their arrival to the target zone.
  • Strategic Thinking: It is often wise to find a balance between defense and offense. Ensure your pieces aren’t isolated while also putting pressure on your opponent.
  • Timing: Decide the best time for offensive maneuvers or defensive plays.

Game End

The game ends when a player has moved all their 15 pieces into the opposite starting zone. This player is the winner. In an alternative version, the game ends when one player can no longer move – in this case, the player with the most pieces in the target zone wins.

Salta is a game that enhances planning and foresight to strategically outmaneuver the opponent.
