Objective of the Game
Cosmic Coasters is a strategic board game where each player aims to eliminate all other players from the board by moving their pawns from the planet, into orbit, and finally off the board. The game is played on coaster-sized game boards.
Components
- Each player has a personal coaster as a game board.
- Colored pawns for each player.
- A standard six-sided die.
Setup
- Each player selects a coaster as their game board and places it in front of them.
- Each player chooses a color for their pawns and places them on the designated start zones on their coaster.
- The players place their coasters together in the center of the table to form the galactic map, representing the arena of play.
Gameplay
The game proceeds in rounds, with the following sequence repeated until a winner emerges:
-
Rolling the Dice: The player rolls a six-sided die.
-
Movement: The player can move one of their pawns the number of spaces shown on the die. Movement can proceed in any direction, as long as the pawns stay on the lines indicated on the coasters.
-
Attacking: If a player lands a pawn on a space adjacent to an opponent's pawn, they can conduct an attack. If the attack is successful (usually determined by another dice roll), the opponent’s pawn must be moved to the outer orbit or off the board. This typically involves a mechanism specific to the rules of Cosmic Coasters.
-
Colonizing: Players can take control of another coaster by eliminating all opponent pawns on that coaster, potentially gaining extra benefits or special abilities.
-
End Turn: The player ends their turn, and the next player clockwise takes their turn.
Winning
A player wins the game by being the last remaining player on the board, i.e., all other players have been pushed off their spots or their pawns have been removed.
Strategy and Tips
- Aggressive Play: An aggressive strategy can be beneficial if you aim to weaken opponents early, but it also carries the risk of counterattacks.
- Positioning: Clever positioning of pawns can help defend against attacks while targeting potential weak spots of opponents.
- Defense and Mobility: If a player is forced into a defensive position, they should try to make strategic retreats to preserve their pawns and strike back later.
