Star Wars: Rebellion
Objective:
In "Star Wars: Rebellion," players take control of the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance. The Empire's goal is to locate and destroy the hidden Rebel base, while the Rebels strive to incite uprisings on planets and weaken the Empire, buying time until the Imperial patience runs out.
Setup:
- Game Board: A large, two-part game board is used, depicting a galaxy with various planets.
- Choose Factions: One player assumes the role of the Galactic Empire and the other the Rebel Alliance.
- Empire Setup: The Empire starts with a large number of units on several planets, while the Rebels have only a few units on fewer planets.
- Rebel Base: The Rebels secretly place their base and mark it with a system marker behind their screen.
Gameplay:
The game is played in rounds consisting of two phases: Assignment Phase and Mission Phase.
- Assignment Phase:
- Each player has a set of Leader Cards and draws cards to delegate missions.
- Each mission requires specific leader abilities with certain symbols.
-
Players place leaders secretly on missions or keep them to counter opponent missions.
-
Mission Phase:
- Players take turns performing actions by revealing leaders and executing their missions.
- Missions can sabotage enemy resources or support uprisings.
- Players can also perform regular troop deployment, sending leaders to systems to move forces or engage in battles.
Combat:
When Empire and Rebel troops land in the same system, combat occurs:
- Leaders: Leaders have combat abilities that can be used in battle.
- Dice: Players roll special dice to determine the outcome of land and space battles.
- Losses: Units hit are either destroyed or damaged based on rolled outcomes.
Victory Conditions:
- Empire: Wins by destroying the secret Rebel base.
- Rebels: Win if time runs out and they have more galaxy support than the Empire can achieve.
Strategic Considerations:
- Rebels should focus on hidden tactics and sabotage since direct confrontation with the Empire is often hard to win.
- Empire should leverage resources to pressure multiple planets and systematically control the galaxy.
- The use of leaders is critical and should be carefully planned to effectively achieve mission goals.
Unique Aspects: "Star Wars: Rebellion" combines strategic movement with asymmetric gameplay, meaning both factions play fundamentally differently and have their own strategies and mission objectives to achieve.
