Objective of the Game:
In Ingenious, the goal is to strategically place your tiles on the board to earn the most points across different colors. The objective is to have as many points as possible in each of the six colors, as the lowest score in any color will determine the overall winner.
Game Materials:
- Game board with hexagonal spaces
- Tiles shaped like dominoes, each with two colored symbols (six different colors in total)
- Scoreboard for each player
- Scoring markers for each color
Setup:
- Each player takes a scoreboard and the matching scoring markers.
- Shuffle the tiles and draw six tiles each. These are your hand tiles.
- Determine the starting player.
Gameplay:

Placing a Tile:
On your turn, place one of your six tiles onto the board. The tile must be placed on a free space. -
Scoring:
For each tile you place, count the number of matching color symbols in a straight line from your placed tile. You score points for each symbol in lines of the same color you connect. -
Recording Points:
Move the scoring marker on your scoreboard corresponding to the points you've earned in that color. -
Drawing a New Tile:
Draw a new tile from the pool so that you always have six tiles in your hand. -
Next Player:
The next player clockwise takes their turn. -
Ingenious Move:
If a player cannot score in a color and it remains their lowest score, they may take a special move by rolling to change the tiles on top to seek new tile opportunities.
Game End:
The game ends when no more moves can be made by any player or when no tiles are left to draw. The winner is the player with the highest score in their lowest color score. This means balancing your points across all colors is key.
