Objective
In Torres, players take on the roles of builders in medieval Spain. The goal is to build castles and strategically place knights to earn the most victory points. At the end of the game, the player with the most victory points wins.
Components
- Game board: A grid of squares where actions take place.
- Castle tiles: Small, stackable blocks representing the castles.
- Knight figures: Each player has a number of knights.
- Action cards: These provide players with special actions or bonus abilities.
- A start player marker.
- Victory point markers and a victory point track.
Setup
- Game board: Place it at the center of the table.
- Starting layout: Place some castle tiles on the board according to the rules.
- Player materials: Each player receives a set number of knights and action cards (depending on the number of players).
- Start player: Determine who the start player is and give them the start player marker.
Gameplay
The game is played over three rounds, and each round consists of several turns, depending on the number of players.
Player turn
During a player's turn, they perform the following steps: 1. Gain action points: Each player has five action points, which can be distributed across different actions. 2. Perform actions: Actions can be repeated as long as sufficient action points are available: - Build castle: Place a castle tile (1 AP per tile). - Move knight: Move knights on the game board (1 AP per tile moved). - Deploy knight: Place a new knight on the fifth level of one of your own castles (2 AP). - Play action card: Use an action card (AP cost varies depending on the card). 3. Scoring: Players do not receive immediate points but will score at the end of the round.
End of round
After all turns are completed, players score victory points based on: - The height of the castle levels occupied by their knights. - Bonuses from played action cards.
End of the game
After three full rounds, the game ends. Victory points are tallied, and the player with the highest score wins.
Strategic Tips
- Height advantage: Aim to place your knights on the tallest castles since points increase with each level.
- Expansion: Use the castle building action to enlarge your castles for higher scoring potential.
- Blocking: Prevent others from placing their knights in strategic positions.
Torres offers a strategic challenge through its limited action point system and the dynamic game board, constantly changing with building actions. It’s a perfect fit for both strategic thinkers and board game enthusiasts who enjoy medieval castle-building experiences.
