Objective of the Game
Krolf combines elements from croquet and golf. The objective is to hit a ball into a series of holes with as few strokes as possible.
Setup and Preparation
- Playing Field:
- Ideally, a grass area or open field. There should be enough space for several courses, which can traverse gardens, over small hills, or around trees.
-
Multiple holes or target points are marked on the field into which the ball should eventually be struck.
-
Equipment:
- Each player needs a club, similar in design and use to a croquet mallet.
- Each player also has a ball, often similar to a croquet ball.
Starting the Game
- Players gather at the first hole. The starting order is determined randomly or agreed upon by all participants.
Game Play
- Striking:
- Each player takes a turn to hit their ball, aiming to move it closer to the hole.
-
Turns are taken cyclically. Once all players have taken their shot, the next round begins.
-
Strategy and Obstacles:
- Unlike traditional golf, natural or artificial obstacles can be included (e.g., trees, bushes, rocks).
-
Players can strategically plan how to maneuver around or utilize these obstacles.
-
Scoring:
- Similar to golf, the goal is to complete each course with as few strokes as possible.
-
Each stroke counts as a point.
-
Ending a Round:
- A round ends once all players have successfully placed their ball in the hole.
- Points are recorded, and players move on to the next hole.
Winning
- The game ends once all designated courses have been played.
- The player with the fewest points (i.e., the fewest total strokes) wins.
Tips for Beginners
- Control over force: Focus on controlled, accurate shots rather than powerful ones.
- Know the field: Pay attention to the lay of the land and consider how you can use it to your advantage.
