Objective of the Game
The goal of 5 Seconds is to quickly provide correct answers to questions under time pressure. Each player must respond to a question within five seconds and earns points for each correct answer.
Game Materials
- Question Cards: Each card contains a question or prompt that must be answered quickly.
- Timer: A device that counts down exactly five seconds, often a special timer with a ball that spirals down a track.
Setup
- Shuffle the Question Cards and place them in the center of the table.
- Each player selects a color or marker for scoring if a game board is used.
Game Play
- The first player draws a Question Card and reads it out loud.
- The next player immediately starts the Timer.
- The active player must give as many answers as possible within five seconds.
- For each correct answer, the player receives a point. Typically, providing three correct answers per turn is aimed for.
- If the player cannot answer or time expires, the chance passes to the next player clockwise, who must provide new answers to the same question.
- The timer is reset for each player attempting to answer.
- Once all applicable players have tried or all possible answers have been given, the next player draws a new card.
Strategic Tips
- Think Fast: Try thinking of potential answers in advance before your turn.
- Stick to Familiar Categories: Rely on categories you're confident in.
- Remain Calm to avoid panicking under the short time pressure.
Ending the Game
The game ends when a pre-set number of points is reached or after an agreed-upon number of rounds. The player with the most points wins the game.
Special Notes: Controversial answers may arise and can typically be resolved by a group vote on their validity.
