Objective
Biberbande is an entertaining card game where the main goal is to end up with the lowest score. Players aim to achieve the best value by skillful swapping, drawing, and memorizing cards.
Components
The game consists of a deck of cards numbered from 0 to 9, along with some special action cards. Each number appears multiple times, while the special cards allow for unique actions.
Setup
- Prepare the deck: Shuffle the entire deck of cards.
- Deal cards: Each player gets four cards face down, placed in a row in front of them. The rest of the deck forms the draw pile.
- Initial peek: Each player may look at two of their own cards briefly to memorize their values, then the cards are placed face down again.
Gameplay
Turns are played in clockwise order. During a turn, players can perform the following actions in any sequence once:
- Draw a card: The player draws a card either from the draw pile or picks up the top card from the discard pile.
- If the card is taken from the draw pile, it can be immediately discarded or used to exchange with one of the player’s face-down cards.

If exchanging, the old card is placed on the discard pile and the new card takes its place face down.

Play special action cards: If a special card is drawn, its ability can be used.
- Peek: The player may look at one of their own cards.

Swap: The player can swap one card with any chosen player but must offer the card face down.

End turn: The turn concludes with either discarding the drawn card or using a special card.
Rounds and Scoring
A round ends when a player believes they have a low score and calls out "Beaver." - Other players get one final turn. - Then, all players reveal their cards and sum up their values. - Each card counts as its face value, and the total is a player's score for that round.
End of the Game
The game ends after a set number of rounds. The player with the lowest total score across all rounds is declared the winner.
Strategies
- Memorization: Remember as much about your card positions as possible.
- Smart Swapping: Swap out high cards whenever possible.
- Risk and Observance: Decide wisely when to call "Beaver" and monitor the other players' actions.
