Objective of the Game
The objective of Umul Gonu is to remove all of the opponent's pieces from the board.
Materials
- A game board with three standalone points and fourteen interconnected points arranged in a rectangular pattern
- Each player has six stones, differing in color for each player
Setup
- Board Configuration: The rectangular area consists of four parallel lines vertically connected, and two horizontal lines at the top and bottom. The three standalone points are in the center of the rectangle, known as "Umul," which means well.
- Placing the Stones: Each player places their six stones on their side of the rectangle.
Game Play
-
Determine the Starting Player: Decide randomly who begins.
-
Making a Move: Players take turns moving one stone at a time. A move consists of sliding a stone along a line to an adjacent empty point.
-
Capturing Stones: When a player's stone is adjacent (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) to an opponent's stone, and there is an empty point directly on the other side, the player can jump over the opponent's stone to capture it, thus removing it from play.
Winning the Game
The game ends when a player captures all of the opponent's stones.
