Objective of the Game
The objective in Kendo is to earn more points than your opponent by maneuvering skillfully and using techniques in a duel. The game consists of rounds where players coordinate attacks, defenses, and tactics against each other.
Setup
Each player receives a special Kendo equipment set consisting of a sword (Shinai), armor (Bogu), and a Kendo play board. The play board symbolizes a traditional Kendo Dōjō.
Rules of the Game
- Positioning: Both players start in their starting stances at opposite ends of the game board.
- Gameplay: The game is made up of several rounds. Each round starts with both players simultaneously playing a technique card.
- Technique Cards: These cards represent different attack methods like Men (strike to the head), Dō (strike to the body), Kote (strike to the wrist), and Tsuki (thrust).
- Defense Mechanisms: Additionally, there are defense cards that can counter specific attacks.
- Scoring Points: A player earns a point if their attack is successful, meaning it isn't countered by a defense card.
- End of Round: A round ends when both players reveal their cards and tally the points.
Special Features
- Timing: Since cards are played simultaneously, timing is crucial. A seasoned player will try to anticipate the opponent's moves.
- Tactic: Strategic thinking and anticipation are key factors in being successful in Kendo. Players should carefully plan their attacks and defenses.
End of the Game
The game ends after a predetermined number of rounds or when a player reaches a certain score. The player with the most points wins.
Strategic Tips
- Variance: Vary your attacks to stay unpredictable.
- Analysis: Pay attention to your opponent's patterns to predict their next moves.
