Objective of the Game
Ligretto is a fast-paced card game where the objective is to quickly lay down your cards on the piles in the center of the table before the other players do. The goal is to get rid of all your cards and earn the most points.
Setup
-
Game Cards: Ligretto consists of multiple sets of cards, each having its own color and numbered from 1 to 10. For two to four players, one set with four colors is used. For up to twelve players, combine several sets.
-
Deal the Cards: Each player gets one set of cards of the same color. Each set consists of 40 cards. Separate the colors and shuffle your own cards.
-
Layout:
- Each player draws 10 cards and places them face down as the Ligretto Stack in front of them.
- In front of each player, create a row of three face-up cards (the Row Stacks) and a face-down Draw Pile with the remaining cards.
Gameplay
- The game starts simultaneously on a start signal. There are no turns; all players play at the same time.
- Players try to place cards starting with number 1 on the table to form Community Piles on which numbers of the corresponding color continue in ascending order up to 10.
- Ligretto Stack, Row Stacks, and Draw Pile:
- You can use cards from your three row stacks and Ligretto Stack.
- The Ligretto Stack can only be undone from the top down.
- Draw cards from your draw pile in groups of three (always the top card is playable) - start drawing from the top again with each new round.
Rules
- You can place cards either from the row stacks, the Ligretto stack, or the draw pile on the appropriate stacks in the center of the table.
- When a stack in the center is full, another stack with a new 1 of that color is started.
- The aim is to be the first to empty your Ligretto stack, and then players subtract points.
End of the Game and Scoring
- The round ends when a player has emptied their Ligretto stack.
- Then players count their remaining cards in the Ligretto stack: there are 2 penalty points per remaining card.
- Each card you placed on the community stacks gives you 1 point.
- The game ends after several rounds or when a player reaches 0 or fewer points. The person with the most points wins the game.
Strategy Tips
- Multitasking: Always keep an eye on your Draw Pile, Row Stacks, and Ligretto Stack. The more options you manage simultaneously, the quicker you'll be.
- Shuffle Well: Shuffle your Draw Pile well at the start to have a balanced distribution of your colors during the game.
- Focus: Keep an eye on the basic community piles, quickly placing cards on them by paying attention to the cards of other players.
Ligretto is hectic and speedy and requires good observation skills and quick decisions. Have fun playing!
