Objective of the Game
The objective of Outburst! is for a team to score as many points as possible by guessing words that fit a given topic.
Game Components
- Topic Cards: Contain a list of words related to a specific topic.
- Score Tracker: To keep track of each team's progress.
- Timer: To limit the time a team has to provide their answers.
- Optionally, a decoding device or overlay to reveal the words, adding suspense to the game.
Setup
- Divide players into two teams with an equal number of players if possible.
- Arrange the topic cards.
- Decide which team will start first.
Gameplay
- Select a Topic: The starting team draws a card and reads the topic (e.g., "Things That Fly") out loud.
- Set Timer: A member from the opposing team starts the timer.
- Answer Phase: The guessing team has until the timer runs out to shout out words they think fit the topic.
- Scoring Points: For every word called out by the team that appears on the card, they earn one point. They continue guessing until time runs out.
- Switch Turns: The turn switches to the other team, who then draws a new topic card.
Special Rules
- Only the team currently guessing is allowed to guess. The opposing team monitors time and correctness of the responses.
- Each team can "pass" on a card once per game if they feel uncertain about the topic or want a new challenge.
Winning the Game
The game ends once all cards have been played, or after a predefined number of rounds. The team with the highest score wins.
Strategic Tips
- Brainstorming: It's crucial to work as a team and brainstorm as many relevant words as possible.
- Speed: Speed is vital! Don't be afraid to shout out unusual words; the element of surprise can sometimes be the key.
- Topic Familiarity: Prior knowledge in certain topics can significantly boost your point-earning potential.
Outburst! is a high-energy, engaging game, ideal for those looking for a lively addition to their game night. It challenges both knowledge and team dynamics, delivering exciting moments of frantic guessing and celebration when another correct guess is made!
