Objective
NMBR 9 is an abstract tile-placement game where players stack number tiles strategically to earn the most points. The goal is to place numbered tiles in higher levels to maximize your score.
Components
- 20 number cards, each showing the numbers 0 to 9, twice
- A variety of uniquely shaped number tiles from 0 to 9
Setup
-
Preparation: Shuffle the number cards thoroughly and place them face down in a draw pile in the center of the table. Each player gets an identical set of number tiles (0 through 9).
-
Turn Order: Draw the top number card and show it to all players. Each player takes the corresponding number tile and adds it to their personal play area.
-
Placement Rules:
- The first tile must be placed on the table surface.
- Each subsequent tile must overlap at least one previously placed tile.
- Gaps: Tiles on higher levels must rest entirely on tiles below, with no gaps or overhangs.
-
Surfaces: On the same level, tiles cannot leave any empty spaces.
-
Level Scoring: Each tile's point value is multiplied by the level it is placed on. The bottom level has a multiplier of 0, the next higher has 1, then 2, etc.
-
Round End: The game ends when all tiles have been placed according to the drawn cards.
-
Scoring: Players calculate their score based on the tile values and the levels the tiles are placed on.
Game End
The game concludes after the last number card is revealed and all players have placed their final tiles. The player with the highest score wins.
Strategy
- Build Foundations: Strive to create a solid base early to enable higher level building later on.
- Plan Ahead: Keep in mind which numbers are yet to be drawn and plan where to place them for maximum scoring.
- Avoid Limited Spaces: Avoid creating clusters that limit your future placement options; maintaining flexibility is key.
