Objective of the Game
Aqualin is a strategic board game for two players, where the aim is to form groups of either the same color or type of marine creatures, ultimately aiming to score the most points by the end of the game.
Components
- 36 tiles, each displaying one of six mosaic colors and one of six marine creature types.
- A game board with a 6 x 6 grid.
Gameplay
- Setup:
- Decide which player will collect groups by color and which player will focus on type.
-
Shuffle the 36 tiles and keep them in a face-down supply.
-
Turns:
- Players take turns drawing a tile from the supply.
- After drawing a tile, the active player may move any already placed tile on the board by up to one space in any direction, if desired.
-
The player then places the drawn tile onto any free space on the board.
-
End of Game:
- The game ends when all 36 tiles have been placed on the board.
- Points are then calculated based on the size of each group of marine creatures.
Scoring
- A group is defined as two or more tiles of the same color or type.
- Points for a group are scored as follows:
- 2 tiles = 1 point
- 3 tiles = 3 points
- 4 tiles = 6 points
- 5 tiles = 10 points
- 6 tiles = 15 points
Strategic Considerations
- Placement: Aim to place your tiles to strengthen multiple groups simultaneously.
- Displacement: Move opponent's tiles to disrupt their grouping strategies.
- Flexibility: Stay adaptable to quickly counter your opponent's strategy.
Special Rules
- Tiles can only be moved to empty spaces.
- No two tiles can occupy the same space. Moving tiles is optional but can be strategically beneficial to hinder the opponent.
