Objective of the Game
In Stormbringer, the goal is to be the first player to collect the most treasures from a haunted castle and escape. Players must overcome dangers, avoid traps, and make clever decisions to choose the best routes and outsmart competitors.
Game Components
- Game board featuring a haunted castle with various rooms
- Character cards for each player piece
- Treasure cards
- Event cards
- Player figures
- Dice
Setup
- Each player selects a character card and the corresponding player figure.
- Shuffle the Treasure Cards and place them face down next to the board.
- Shuffle the Event Cards and place them face down as well.
- Place the player figures on the starting square of the castle.
Gameplay
Turn Sequence
- Movement: Roll the dice to determine the number of movement spaces. Players move their figure according to the dice roll.
- Interaction: After moving, players may interact with the room if it has special symbols:
- Treasure Room: Draw a treasure card.
- Event Space: Draw an event card and follow its instructions.
- Trap Space: Perform a check to avoid the trap (often requires rolling the dice or discarding equipment).
- Recovery: At the end of their turn, a player can choose to swap a piece of equipment by discarding it and drawing a new card.
Special Rules
- Duels: When a player lands on another player's space, they can initiate a duel. Both players roll the dice, and the higher roll wins, allowing the winner to take a treasure or equipment card from the loser.
- Escape: Once a player has collected a defined number of treasures, they can attempt to escape the castle. Reach the starting space to win.
Strategic Considerations
- Plan your route carefully to efficiently reach multiple treasure rooms while avoiding dangerous events.
- Wisely choose when to engage in duels to steal crucial cards from opponents.
- Avoid taking excessive risks when escaping. A wrong decision can result in losing valuable treasures.
