Objective
In Troll and Dragon, players compete to collect treasures from a dangerous cave. The player who collects the most gold by the end of the game wins.
Components
- 1 Game Board representing the cave
- 7 Special Dice:
- 4 white D6 with treasure symbols, key symbols, and troll faces
- 3 yellow D6 with more treasure symbols and dragon faces
- 15 Diamonds
- 50 Gold Coins
- 1 Troll Figure for the troll guardian
- 1 Dragon Figure
Setup
- Place the game board in the center of the table.
- Set the diamonds in the "Diamond Cave" and the gold coins in the "Gold Cave."
- Each player takes a pencil and paper or some way to track their treasures.
- Decide who will be the starting player.
Gameplay
The game is played over several rounds, with each player taking turns in a clockwise order.
Player Turn:
-
Collect Treasures:
- Begin with the 4 white dice.
- Roll all these dice together.
- You can collect all treasures rolled immediately.
- Be cautious: If you roll troll faces, you must set these dice aside.
-
Continue Rolling or Stop:
- You may choose to roll the remaining dice or stop and secure your collected treasures.
- If you've rolled all 4 white dice and are still going, attempt to enter the gold cave by rolling the 3 yellow dice.
-
Enter the Gold Cave:
- Roll the 3 yellow dice to potentially gather extra gold and diamonds.
- Keep all gold and diamond symbols as loot.
- Beware: Red dragon faces mean the dragon could wake.
-
Beware of Troll or Dragon Awakenings:
- Rolling at least three troll faces means you lose all treasures collected this turn.
- For the dragon: Just one dragon face ends your turn immediately.
-
Secure Treasures:
- If you end your turn before either a troll or dragon awakens, secure your collected treasures.
End of Game
The game concludes when all treasures are spent. The player with the most gold coins is declared the winner.
Strategy Tips
- Take calculated risks at the start of your turn to maximize safe treasures.
- Choose wisely when to end your turn; greed can mean losing everything you've gained.
- Keep an eye on what your opponents collect to make the best decisions.
