Objective
The objective of Seti is to score the highest number of 'Seti points' by strategically placing and moving game pieces to create as many rows of your own pieces as possible.
Components
Seti is played on a 9x9 square board. Each player has an equal number of pieces in their color, typically 18 pieces per player.
Setup
At the beginning of the game, players choose their color and alternately place one of their pieces on an empty space on the board. Pieces can be placed on any available space.
Gameplay
Players take turns which consist of: 1. Placement Phase - In the first nine turns, players alternate in placing their pieces onto the board. 2. Movement Phase - Once all pieces are placed, players can start moving their pieces to adjacent empty spaces. Each move involves shifting one piece one space in any direction.
Rows and Scoring:
- Forming Rows: The goal is to form a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row of three or more of one's own pieces.
- Points: Each new row formed of three or more pieces scores points immediately. A row of exactly three pieces gives one point, while longer rows (e.g., four or five pieces) score additional points (e.g., four pieces may be worth two points).
Special Rules and Strategies
- Blocking: Players can block opponent's rows by filling in a gap in their line or placing a piece so that it disrupts potential lines.
- Multiple Rows: If a piece is placed or moved to form multiple rows simultaneously, all rows score points.
- Offense and Defense: Successful strategy in Seti involves balancing offensive moves (to create your own rows) with defensive moves (to thwart opponent's efforts).
Ending the Game
The game ends when no player can make a valid move, either because the board is full or no legal moves are possible. The player with the most points wins.
Seti offers a blend of strategy and tactics, requiring both foresight in planning and adeptness in responding to the opponent's moves.
