Objective of the Game

The objective of Cram is to be the last player able to place a piece on the board. If a player cannot make a move, they lose.

Game Components

  • A rectangular playing board of any predetermined size (often a chessboard)
  • Domino-like pieces that can cover two squares

Setup

  1. Decide on the size of the playing board. A standard board is an 8x8 grid, but it can be smaller or larger.
  2. Choose who goes first. Players can decide this by lot or some other random method.

Rules

  1. Making a Move: Players take turns placing one domino piece horizontally or vertically onto two adjacent empty squares on the board.
  2. Placement Rules: Each placed piece must cover exactly two empty squares and may not overlap other pieces or extend beyond the board's edges.
  3. End of Game: The game ends when a player cannot make a legal move. This player loses. The other player is the winner.

Strategic Considerations

  • Try to control the board by placing your pieces to limit the opponent's options.
  • Avoid leaving isolated squares that cannot be covered by a legal move, as this can put you at a disadvantage.
  • Look for area control opportunities where you can plan several moves ahead to maneuver your opponent into an unfavorable situation.

Cram is an abstract strategy game that relies on tactical thinking. It has simple rules but requires deep strategic understanding to master.
