Objective
The objective of Speed is to be the first to get rid of all your cards. The game is fast-paced and requires quick reflexes and keen observation.
Setup
- Number of Players: 2 players.
- Card Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck.
- Card Distribution: Each player gets 20 cards. These should be distributed as follows:
- 5 cards as your hand.
- 15 cards as your draw pile.
- Setup the Center Field: Place two separate face-down piles between the players. These will be the starting points for the play field.
- Flip four cards face-up next to these piles. These cards will be used to place matching cards from your hand.
Game Play
- Players simultaneously place cards from their hands onto the center piles. A card can be played if it is one rank higher or lower than the card on top of the pile, regardless of suit.
- Once a card is played, it cannot be taken back.
- Refill Hand: After playing a card, the player draws a card from their personal draw pile to maintain five cards in hand.
- Restart the Stack: When neither player can play a card from their hand, each player turns a new card from their respective center face-down pile to be the new top card to play on. The previous cards remain underneath and are the new base for subsequent plays.
Rules
- No Pause in Order: Keep the momentum of the game going by ensuring you're drawing to maintain your hand at 5 cards immediately after playing.
- Simultaneous Play: Since it's played at the same time, speed and accuracy are crucial. The first player to accurately place a card claims the move.
- If both players' draw piles run out and no cards can be played, play continues with the remaining hand cards until one ends the round.
- Winner: The winner of the round is the first to have no remaining cards in their hand.
Strategic Tips
- Try to scan through your hand quickly to spot possible longer sequences to play.
- Watch your opponent's cards as well to predict and plan for their potential moves.
- Maintain speed but make sure to avoid making illegal moves, as these are not allowed.
Speed is a great way to test and improve your reflexes. The quick rhythm of the game adds to the fun and excitement.
