Objective of the Game

The aim of Uno is to be the first player to play all of your cards. When a player has only one card remaining, they must shout 'Uno!' to indicate they are close to winning.

Game Components

Uno consists of 108 cards divided as follows: - Colored number cards: In red, blue, green, and yellow, numbered 0 through 9. - Action cards: Including Draw 2, Skip, and Reverse cards, also in the four colors. - Black special cards: Wild and Wild Draw 4 cards.

Setup

  • Each player draws a card. The player who draws the highest number card (action and special cards count as 0) shuffles the deck and deals seven cards to each player.
  • The remaining cards form a draw pile, and the top card is turned over to start a discard pile.

Gameplay

  • The player to the left of the dealer starts and play proceeds clockwise.
  • A player must play a card that matches either the color, number, or symbol of the top card on the discard pile.
  • If a player cannot play a card, they must draw one from the draw pile. If the drawn card is playable, they can play it immediately; otherwise, their turn ends.

Action Cards

  • Draw 2 Card: The next player draws two cards and skips their turn.
  • Skip Card: The next player loses their turn.
  • Reverse Card: The order of play reverses direction (in a two-player game, this means the same player takes another turn).
  • Wild Card: The current player chooses the next play color.
  • Wild Draw 4 Card: The player may choose the next color, and the next player must draw four cards and lose their turn.

Special Rules

  • Calling Uno: When a player has only one card remaining, they must call "Uno". If they fail to do so and another player notices before they're caught before the next player starts their turn, the penalized player must draw two cards.
  • If the draw pile runs out, the discard pile is shuffled and becomes the new draw pile.

Ending the Game and Scoring

  • The game ends when a player plays all their cards. That player wins the round and the remaining players score penalty points:
  • Number cards are worth their face value.
  • Action cards are worth 20 points.
  • Wild and Wild Draw 4 cards are worth 50 points.
  • Points are tallied over several rounds, and the first player to reach 500 points wins the game.

Strategy

  • Effective Use of Action Cards: Hold onto strategic cards to hinder opponents at crucial moments.
  • Card Counting: Try to keep track of the number of cards other players possess.
  • Color Selection: Use wild cards to choose colors that benefit yourself or disadvantage an opponent nearing victory.

Conclusion

Uno is an exciting, simple card game popular among kids and adults alike for being easy to learn and full of unexpected twists!
