Objective
The goal of Operation is to perform as many successful surgeries on a patient without triggering the alarm. The player who earns the most money from successful operations by the end of the game wins.
Game Materials
- A game board featuring a patient named "Sam" with various "ailments" (plastic pieces) embedded in it.
- Tweezers to remove the "ailments."
- A deck of Operation cards and Specialist cards.
- A battery-operated buzzer with a red nose that lights up and buzzes when the alarm is triggered.
Setup
- Place the game board in the center and fill it with the "ailments" by inserting them into the designated openings in the board.
- Shuffle the cards and place them in a stack, face down.
Game Play
Play proceeds in a clockwise direction.
- Draw a Card: Each player draws a card from the deck and reads it aloud. There are two types of cards:
- Operation Card: Indicates which "ailment" to remove and the amount of money earned if successful.
-
Specialist Card: Specifies a special operation that a player must attempt; if not successful, the operation will be open to other players.
-
Perform the Operation: The player uses the tweezers to remove the designated "ailment" without touching the sides of the opening.
- If the player touches the sides, the buzzer sounds and Sam's nose lights up. This means the operation was unsuccessful, and the player does not earn the money on the card. The card goes back under the stack.
-
If the "ailment" is removed successfully, the player collects the money shown on the card, and the piece is taken out of the game.
-
The game ends when all "ailments" have been successfully removed or when there are no more cards left.
End of the Game and Winner
The player with the most money at the game's end wins.
Strategic Tips
- Practice Steady Hands: The steadier your hand, the greater your success rate.
- Be Patient: Take your time and carefully plan how to grasp the "ailment."
- Stay Close to the Table: This provides better control over the tweezers.
Operation is a fun dexterity game that combines excitement and patience.
