Objective of the Game

In Tsuro, the goal of the game is to be the last player remaining on the board. Players lay path tiles to move their stones along permitted paths, ultimately aiming to force opponents' stones off the board or block their path to make them unable to move.

Components

  • A square game board with a 6x6 grid
  • 35 square path tiles with various path combinations
  • 8 different colored player stones, one for each player

Setup

  1. Each player chooses a color and takes the corresponding stone.
  2. Players place their stones on any of the marked starting positions along the edge of the board.
  3. Shuffle the 35 path tiles, and each player draws three tiles.
  4. The remaining tiles form a draw pile.

Gameplay

Tsuro is played in clockwise order, starting with a designated first player:

  1. Placing a Path: The active player selects one of their three path tiles and places it on a free space in front of their stone.
  2. Movement: The player must move their stone along the path in a straight line until the stone comes to a stop at the edge of a tile. This can also force adjacent players' stones to be moved.
  3. Refill Hand: The player draws a new tile to have three in hand, if tiles are still available in the draw pile.

End of the Game

  • A player is eliminated if their stone is moved off the board or into a completed dead-end.
  • The game ends when only one player remains, or all the tiles have been played, and there are no more possible moves.

Strategic Tips

  • Plan Ahead: Keep in mind that the movement of stones can be affected by other players’ tiles. Try to anticipate and plan your moves while considering the possible actions of other players.
  • Take Risks: Sometimes it’s beneficial to choose a riskier path to potentially cut off opponents or force them off the board.

Tsuro is simple to learn but has tactical depth, excelling through strategic planning and foresight.
