Objective
Bruus is a strategic card game typically played in rural areas. The goal of the game is to be the first player to reach a set number of points, which is agreed upon before starting. It is not only a game of chance but also one of strategy, as players must carefully pay attention to which cards have already been played.
Setup
- Cards: A standard deck of 52 cards without Jokers is needed.
- Players: The game can be played by 2 to 5 players.
- Scorekeeping: A piece of paper and a pen to keep track of scores can be helpful.
Gameplay
-
Dealing Cards: The dealer is chosen randomly at the start. Each player is dealt 5 cards. The remaining cards form the draw pile.
-
Trick Round:
- Each player places a card face down in front of them. Upon a signal, all cards are revealed. The player with the highest card wins the trick. Card Ranking: Ace (high) to Two (low).
-
The winner of the trick takes the draw pile and draws first to replenish their hand to five cards. Other players follow in clockwise order.
-
Objective of the Trick:
- The round continues until the draw pile is depleted. The player with the most tricks is then determined.
-
Scoring:
- Each won trick earns the player 1 point. The player who first reaches the target number of points (for example, 50 or 100 points) wins the game.
Strategies
- Card Counting: As it is a game with revealed cards, it is important to note which cards have already been played and which might still be in play.
- Bluffing: Sometimes it can be advantageous to play a weaker card to secure a more valuable trick in a later round.
Special Rules
- If identical cards are played, the first card played determines the winner of the trick.
- When playing with variants, additional rules such as trump cards or swapping cards after the first draw can be introduced.
Bruus is a varied card game that relies on both luck and strategy, offering a lot of fun in a sociable setting.
