Objective of the Game
In Mondagor, players aim to collect the most points by strategically placing cards on the game board. This requires both strategic thinking and clever use of card abilities to outsmart opponents.
Setup
- Each player starts with seven cards in their hand.
- A game board with eight rows of eight squares each is prepared in a square layout.
- The remaining cards form a draw pile, from which players will draw cards during the game.
Gameplay
Round Structure: 1. Draw Cards: Each player begins their turn by drawing two cards from the stack. 2. Place Cards: - The active player places a card from their hand onto a free space on the board. - Cards may have special abilities that are activated when played. 3. Use Abilities and Actions: When a card is played, the player can decide to activate its special ability (if it has one). 4. Scoring Points: - Some cards allow instant points. Players must balance the benefits of immediate scoring against longer-term strategies. - At the end of the game, points are counted from collected cards and combinations. 5. End Turn: The player signals the end of their turn, and the next player takes their turn.
Card Abilities
- Attack: Some cards destroy enemy cards in adjacent spaces.
- Defense: Protect other cards or make adjacent spaces inaccessible to opponents.
- Point Bonuses: Provide immediate points for specific placements or combinations.
Strategic Considerations
- Analyze the Board: Decide where to place cards for maximum advantage.
- Anticipate Opponent Moves: Watch where opponents place cards to thwart their strategies.
- Form Combinations: Look for opportunities to create powerful card combinations on the board for extra points.
End of the Game
The game ends when no cards can be drawn or a player has played all their cards. The player with the most points wins.
Tips - Use card abilities tactically to hinder opponents or advance your position. - Plan ahead to maximize scoring combinations.
