Objective
In Schangeln, the goal is to be the first player to reach the end space on the board. The game is a race full of surprises, with dice luck playing a significant role.
Game Components
- A board with numbered spaces, featuring snakes and ladders.
- A die.
- Playing pieces for each player.
Basic Rules
-
Starting Position: Each player chooses a playing piece and places it on the starting square (number 1).
-
Turn Play: Players take turns rolling the die. The player with the highest roll starts, and play proceeds clockwise.
-
Movement: On your turn, roll the die and move your playing piece forward the number of spaces shown.
-
Snakes and Ladders: If a player lands on a ladder's base, they climb up to the top of the ladder. Conversely, if they land on a snake's head, they slide down to the tail.
-
Winning Condition: The first player to reach the final space (usually space 100) wins.
Strategic Hints
You cannot win by exceeding the final space. You must roll the exact number needed to land on the last square.
Special Rules
If a player cannot make a valid move (e.g., needs a 2, but rolls a 3), they skip their turn.
Tips for Beginners
While there is little strategic depth, the game offers social enjoyment and surprises. Kids particularly love it for its simple rules and element of chance.
