Instructions Living Forest

Objective of the Game

In Living Forest, players take on the role of nature spirits tasked with protecting the Holy Tree of the forest from the flames of Onibi. The objective is to be the first to achieve one of the following victory conditions: - Plant 12 different Sacred Trees - Extinguish 12 Fires - Collect 12 Sacred Flowers

Number of Players

The game is designed for 2 to 4 players.

Game Components

• Forest Boards for each player
• Nature Spirit Figures
• Animal Cards
• Fire Cards
• Sacred Tree Tiles
• Victory Point Markers

Setup

1. Each player takes a Forest Board and places their Nature Spirit figure on the starting space.
2. Shuffle the Animal cards, Fire cards, and have the Sacred Tree tiles nearby.
3. Place the Fire cards on the game board based on the difficulty and the number of players.
4. Each player draws three starting animal cards from their personal deck.

Game Play

The game is played in rounds with several phases that all players go through simultaneously:

1. Call Animal Companions: Draw cards from your animal deck and place them face-up in front of you. You may continue drawing cards until you have the desired number of animals or until you draw 3 Solitaire (loner) animals. If you draw 3 Solitaires, you must stop immediately and receive fewer actions.

2. Choose Actions: With the animals you have revealed, you can perform the following actions:

   • Extinguish Fire: Use the power of your animals to remove Fire cards from the board.
   • Plant Trees: Use your animal points to plant Sacred Trees that provide abilities and victory points.
   • Animal Help: Purchase more powerful animal cards to add to your deck.
   • Collect Shrub Blossoms: Use specific animal abilities to gather shrub blossoms.

3. Fire Spreads: New Fire cards are added to the board depending on the number of remaining Fire cards.

Winning the Game

The first player to meet one of the three victory conditions (planting 12 Sacred Trees, extinguishing 12 Fires, or collecting 12 Sacred Flowers) triggers the end of the game. One final round is completed, and the player who met the condition wins.

Strategic Tips

• Finding Balance: Try to balance your deck between cards that help extinguish fires and those that make planting easier.
• Manage Fire: Do not ignore fire, as it can cause greater disadvantages in the following rounds.
• Use Tree Abilities: Utilize the effects of planted trees optimally to gain a strategic advantage.
