Objective of the Game
Okey is a traditional Turkish board game, similar to Rummikub. The objective is to be the first to place all your tiles in valid combinations on the table.
Game Components
- 4 Racks for the players
- 104 Tiles in four colors (black, blue, yellow, red), numbered from 1 to 13
- 2 Jokers, which can substitute any tile
- 1 Set of dice to determine the "Okey" tile
Setup
- Each player receives a rack.
- The tiles are shuffled face down and built into stacks of 5 tiles.
- Each player draws 14 tiles, the starting player 15 tiles.
- The remaining tiles become the draw stack.
- A random tile is drawn to designate the "Okey" tile, which acts as a wild card. The next tile in sequential numbering is used as the "Okey" tile.
Gameplay
- Starting the Game: The player with 15 tiles starts by discarding one tile to end their turn.
- Players' Turns: In clockwise order, each player draws a tile either from the stack or the previous player's discard and then discards a tile from their rack.
Rules for Valid Combinations
- Sets: Three or four tiles with the same number but different colors.
- Runs: At least three consecutive numbers of the same color.
- "Okey" tiles can substitute any tile in a set or run.
End of the Game
The game ends when a player places all their tiles in valid combinations and discards one excess tile.
Winning
The first player to correctly place all their tiles wins.
Strategic Tips
- Observe discarded tiles to deduce which tiles other players might be missing.
- Use Jokers wisely: It can be wise to save Jokers for crucial moves, as they can significantly enhance your ability to complete combinations.
- Stay flexible: If you can modify existing runs or sets to better utilize a Joker, it may be beneficial.
Special Features
- There are only two jokers available in the game, which increases their strategic value.
- The starting player has a slight advantage due to the extra tile, giving them more options at the beginning.
Enjoy playing!
