Objective of the Game

The objective of the game Evo is to have the most Evo Points at the end of the game. These are accumulated by ensuring the survival of your dinosaurs in the challenging climates of the prehistoric world and by developing adaptations to facilitate their survival.

Game Setup

1. Set Up the Game Board: Place the game board in the center of the table and set up the weather gauge and round counter in their designated spots.
2. Gene Markers and Mutation Board: Each player receives a mutation board to track their dinosaurs' genetic makeup and gene markers in a single color.
3. Starting Position: Each player begins the game with a small number of dinosaurs on the designated starting spaces on the board.
4. Market: Have the printed gene cards ready; these represent possible adaptations.
5. Cards and Dice: Ensure the action cards are shuffled and the weather die is available.

Game Rounds

1. Weather Phase: At the beginning of each round, the weather for that round is set. This influences which climate zones are suitable for dinosaur survival.
2. Roll the Die: A player rolls the weather die and moves the weather indicator on the board accordingly.
3. Dinosaur Movement: Each player can move their dinosaurs on the board. Dinosaurs can move across spaces based on the genes they possess:
4. Standard Movement: Generally, a dinosaur can move one space per round.
5. Special Abilities: If a dinosaur has additional genes, such as a leg gene, it might move faster.
6. Area Control: After all players have moved their dinosaurs, check which dinosaurs are in livable climate zones.
7. Survival: Dinosaurs in unsuitable climates do not survive that round unless they possess appropriate adaptations like a warmth gene.
8. Mutation: After surviving, players may use their points to acquire genes from the market or apply special effects using action cards.
9. Round Counter: At the end of the round, advance the round counter by one step.

Winning Conditions

The game ends when all rounds are played or certain scenario-related conditions are met. The player with the most Evo Points, gained from remaining dinosaurs and developed genes, wins the game.

Strategic Tips

• Adaptation: Quickly buy genes that provide significant advantages in movement or survival across various climates.
• Weather Awareness: Plan your moves in advance to exploit favorable weather conditions or rapidly adapt.
• Positioning: Try to position your dinosaurs so they are in suitable climates for the next round, even as the weather changes.

Evo combines strategy with a level of randomness due to the weather die and event cards, resulting in a varied gameplay experience.
