Objective of the Game
HeroQuest is a cooperative adventure game where players, acting as heroes, venture through a dungeon to complete quests, defeat monsters, and find treasures. One player takes on the role of the Zargon, who controls the board and monsters, while the other players are the heroes.
Setup
- Game Setup:
- One player takes the role of Zargon (game master), while the others choose their heroes - Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, or Wizard.
- Place the game board in the center. Zargon sets up the figures, monsters, doors, and furniture according to the current scenario.
- Each hero receives equipment and spell cards based on their character.
Gameplay
- The game progresses in rounds made up of Hero turns followed by a Zargon turn.
1. Hero Turn
- Movement:
- Each hero rolls two six-sided dice to determine how many spaces they can move.
- Movement can be horizontal or vertical but not diagonal. Heroes may open doors by ending their movement adjacent to them.
- Actions:
- Each time a character moves or ends near a door, they may perform one action:
- Attack - Roll dice and compare with the monster's defense you are attacking.
- Search - Look for traps or secret doors in the room or corridor.
- Treasure - Search for treasure in a room.
- Cast Spells - The Wizard or Elf can cast a spell if they have spell cards available.
2. Zargon Turn
- Move and Attack with Monsters:
- Zargon can move all monsters and have them attack heroes using dice based on the monster's strength.
- Trigger Traps - Traps can be triggered if heroes move over them without searching first.
Winning Conditions
- Hero Team: Complete the mission objective, such as finding an artifact or surviving the mission.
- Zargon: Defeat all heroes or prevent them from achieving their goal.
Strategic Tips
- Teamwork: Heroes need to cooperate and combine their abilities to progress effectively.
- Caution: Check rooms before entering to avoid traps.
- Resource Management: Monitor your health and spell resources carefully as they are limited and crucial.
HeroQuest offers hours of fun with its variable scenarios and mixable materials, requiring tactical thinking and good communication among heroes.
