Objective
Um Krone und Kragen is a dice game where players aim to be the first to reach a predetermined number of points. Players take turns rolling dice and attempt to create point-scoring combinations.
Components
- 5 six-sided dice
- Scorepad or paper for tracking points
- Pencil or pen
Setup
Each player gets a scorepad or a piece of paper and a pen for recording scores. Players agree upon a number of points to reach to win the game (e.g., 2,500 points).
Gameplay
- The first player starts by rolling all five dice.
- After each roll, the player can decide to:
- Score the rolled dice and accumulate points.
- Set aside one or more scoring combinations and re-roll the remaining dice to attempt for additional points.
- Re-roll all dice, but this is only allowed once per turn, and if no scoring combinations appear, the player loses all points for that round.
Scoring Combinations
- Individual Ones: 100 points each
- Three-of-a-kind (same number rolled three times):
- Grimms Fairy Tales: 500 points
- All other numbers: 100 times the number, e.g., 3×4 = 400 points
- Straight (1-5 or 2-6): 1,500 points
- Five-of-a-kind: All dice show the same number, doubling the points.
Special Rules
- Risks and Rewards: Choosing to continue rolling after scoring already has inherent risks; you might lose all points for that turn if no additional scoring combinations are achieved.
- Quick Strategy: When a player is close to the winning score, taking risks might be worth it to quickly reach the target.
Winning the Game
The game ends once a player reaches or exceeds the agreed-upon number of points. This player is declared the winner.
Strategy Tips
- Be Bold Early: In the early rounds, playing aggressively for high combinations can be rewarding.
- Playing Safe: In later rounds, especially when close to the target score, play it safe and secure smaller point totals.
