Objective:
Catan Dice Game is a game where players use dice to collect resources in order to build different constructions, which are worth points at the end of the game. The objective is to have the most points after a set number of rounds to win the game.
Game Components:
- 6 dice with different resource symbols: [B, L, G, W, O, W] (Brick, Lumber, Grain, Wool, Ore)
- 1 pad of development sheets (alternative boards or plans)
- Pencils or pens
Gameplay:
The game is played over a set number of rounds. During each round, players roll the dice up to three times to try to get as many resource combinations as possible to build roads, settlements, and cities.
-
Start of the Round: The first player takes the starting turn. The player rolls all six dice.
-
Rolling: The player rolls all six dice. After each roll, they can decide which dice to set aside and which ones to reroll. They have a total of three rolls per round.
-
Using Resources: After the third roll, the player decides which constructions to build based on the resources obtained. The constructions are recorded on the score sheet:
- Roads require combinations of Brick and Lumber
- Settlements require a combination of various resources
-
Cities require Ore and Grain
-
Building: The player marks the constructed road, settlement, or city on the score sheet. Each construction earns points.
-
End of the Round: After building, the next player clockwise takes their turn. At the end of the set number of rounds, the game ends.
Scoring:
- Roads: 1 point
- Settlements: 3 points
- Cities: 7 points
Strategic Tips:
- Try to build settlements early in the game as they offer a good balance of points.
- Keep track of resources needed for cities as they yield much higher points in combination.
- Plan across multiple rounds to achieve specific combinations; sometimes it’s worth "saving" a resource.
End of the Game:
The game ends after the predefined number of rounds. The player with the most points wins.
Special Features:
- Since the game uses only dice and a scorepad, it is very portable and can be played almost anywhere.
- The dice introduce a high luck factor, but strategic selection and rerolling of dice can positively influence the outcome.
