Objective

Next Station: Paris is a board game where players take on the role of engineers planning and expanding their own metro networks in Paris. The main objective of the game is to create the most efficient and extensive metro network by strategically expanding routes and connecting destinations on the map to score points.

Setup and Materials

  • Each player receives a player sheet depicting a map of Paris with various districts and pre-existing metro stations.
  • There is a deck of cards with different symbols and route elements that are used during the game to expand the networks.
  • Each player gets different colored pencils or markers to draw routes on their player sheets.
  • A scoreboard for each player to keep track of the points scored during the game.

Gameplay

  1. Setup:
  2. Each player takes a player sheet and the pencils.
  3. The deck of cards is shuffled and placed ready.
  4. Determine the starting player using any method.

  5. Round Structure:

  6. In each round, a card is drawn from the deck.
  7. All players must simultaneously draw a line on their sheets that follows the revealed route elements and guidelines.
  8. Players are free to draw lines within certain guidelines but must try to expand their networks as efficiently as possible.
  9. The lines must always connect to existing metro stations or pre-existing lines.

  10. Crossing Regions:

  11. Players should draw lines to cross as many different districts as possible on their sheets, as this grants extra points.

  12. Special Cards and Bonuses:

  13. There are special cards that allow unique actions like skipping or doubling routes or adding bonus stations.
  14. Bonuses are used to gain strategic advantages or overcome challenges.

  15. Round Goals:

  16. Each round ends once all players have drawn their lines and calculated their points for the round.
  17. Various goals such as connecting particular neighborhoods or reaching a specific number of line ends yield bonus points.

Game End and Scoring

  • The game ends after a set number of rounds are played or the card deck is exhausted.
  • Final scores are determined by summing points for route creation, valid connections, and cross-district pathways.
  • The player with the most points wins the game.
  • In case of a tie, the player whose network crosses the most districts wins.

Strategic Tips

  • Plan ahead: A well-planned start can provide advantages later in the game.
  • Focus on strategically crossing districts to maximize points from district interactions.
  • Use special cards wisely and at the right time to get ahead of opponents.

Next Station: Paris requires not only skill but also strategic thinking and clever planning to succeed. Have fun playing!
