Objective
The Paradise Game is a traditional religious board game often played during the Christmas season. The objective is to be the first to reach Paradise, typically represented by a specific end position on the board, by overcoming various obstacles and passing moral trials.
Required Materials
- A specially designed game board depicting the path to Paradise.
- Playing pieces for each player.
- A die for movement.
Setup
- Each player chooses a playing piece and places it on the starting point of the game board.
- Determine a starting player by rolling the die. The player with the highest number starts.
Gameplay
- Turns: Each player rolls the die on their turn and moves their piece according to the number rolled along the path.
- Spaces: Many spaces on the board have instructions that must be followed, including moral questions, advancing or retreating, or other challenges.
- Stumbling Blocks: Landing on a challenge space requires carrying out the described event, such as skipping a turn or taking a detour.
- Good Deeds: Landing on a space that rewards good behavior may grant an advantage, such as moving extra spaces forward.
- Winning: The first player to land exactly on the Paradise space wins the game. Surplus roll numbers do not count; you must roll the exact number to enter Paradise.
Strategic Tips
- It's often beneficial to play cautiously and avoid event spaces when possible.
- Aiming for good deeds can help gain strategic advantages.
The Paradise Game is easy to learn, making it suitable for families and children. It promotes togetherness and allows for a playful reflection on moral values.
