Objective of the Game
In Hey-Thanks for the Fish!, players take on the roles of penguins trying to collect the most fish while waddling precariously on unstable ice floes. The game ends when no more valid moves can be made, or all the fish have been collected. The player with the most fish wins.
Setup
- The game board consists of hexagonal tiles representing ice floes, which are randomly placed in a grid pattern.
- Each tile shows 1 to 3 fish.
- Each player receives a set number of penguin pieces, which are placed on the tiles with one fish at the start of the game.
Game Flow
- Turn Moves: Players take turns.
- Movement: During a turn, a player may move one of their penguin pieces in a straight line over the ice floes. The movement cannot be interrupted by other penguins or empty spaces.
- Collecting: After moving, the player picks up the starting tile of their movement and adds it to their personal stash of collected fish.
- Note: A player cannot move if their penguin is completely surrounded by empty spaces. These penguins have no further movement for the game.
Special Rules
- Isolate Opponents: Players can strategically work to isolate other players' penguins from large fish resources.
- Unpassable Gaps: During movement, penguins cannot move over empty spaces.
Game End
The game flow ends when no more penguin can be moved due to being blocked in, or all fish have been collected. The winner is the player with the most fish.
Strategic Tips
- Prioritize Fish: Always aim to collect large numbers of fish, even if it means isolating your penguins.
- Movement Planning: Consider ahead how removing a tile will affect your future moves and those of your opponents.
- Block Opponents: Aim to block other players' moves to isolate them or limit their movement options.
