Objective

The goal of Machi Koro is to be the first player to build all four major landmarks in your city: the City Hall, the Train Station, the Shopping Mall, and the Amusement Park.

Components

• Cards: There are various types of cards (Agriculture, Industry, Retail, and Major Projects).
• Dice: Two standard six-sided dice are used.
• Coins: Currency for the game.

Setup

1. Each player starts with a City Hall landmark built and has a Wheat Field and a Bakery card.
2. Lay out all other cards, sorted by type, in the middle of the table as the marketplace.
3. Each player receives 3 coins as starting capital.

Game Play

Machi Koro is played in turns in a clockwise order. On their turn, each player performs the following steps:

1. Roll the Dice: The player rolls one or two dice.
2. Earn Income:
   • Blue Cards (Universal Effects): All players earn money from these cards if their number matches the dice roll.
   • Green Cards (Market-based Effects): The active player earns money if the number on their green cards matches the roll.
   • Red Cards (Establishments): The active player pays money to players with matching red cards if their number matches the roll.
   • Purple Cards (Major Projects): The active player can benefit from these projects.
3. Activate Landmarks: If a landmark (like the Train Station) is completed, it might have an ongoing effect on the game.
4. Build: The player may construct new establishments or landmarks with their money. Costs are indicated on each card.

Winning

The first player to build all four landmarks wins the game.
