Objective of the Game

In "Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King", players aim to accumulate the most victory points to become the most powerful chieftain of the island by the end of the game. Victory points are earned through landscape building, fulfilling various scoring conditions throughout the game, and smart resource management.

Game Components

  • 1 game board
  • 6 scoring tiles
  • 16 scoring markers
  • 1 round marker
  • Currency coins
  • Terrain tiles (landscape tiles)
  • Player screens
  • Zones for gold and discard pile

Gameplay

The game is played over 5 rounds (for 2-3 players) or 6 rounds (for 4-5 players). Each round consists of several phases:

  1. Income Phase
  2. Each player receives income based on their castle tiles and potentially other landscape tiles.

  3. Drawing Tiles

  4. Each player draws three landscape tiles from the bag in secret.

  5. Price Setting

  6. All players secretly set a selling price in gold for two of the tiles they drew. The third tile is placed on their personal discard pile.

  7. Buying Tiles

  8. Starting with the current player and going clockwise, each player has the opportunity to buy a landscape tile from another player for the set price. Gold is exchanged accordingly.

  9. Tile Placement

  10. All remaining tiles (both owned and bought) are built into their territory. There are tile placement rules, such as roads needing to continue.

  11. Scoring Phase

  12. At the end of each round, current scores are executed based on the scoring tiles determined at the start.

Scoring Mechanism

Different scoring tiles apply each round. These scoring tiles dictate how victory points can be acquired, such as for the largest continuous area of a specific landscape or symbols placed on the landscape.

Special Rules

  • Road Continuation: Roads on landscape tiles must always be continued.
  • Gold Management: Successful trading with tiles requires smart gold management.
  • Buying Strategy: As only one tile can be bought per round, players must choose carefully.

Strategic Tips

  • Long-term Planning: Attempt to acquire tiles that align with future scoring opportunities.
  • Smart Tile Usage: Build so that as many aspects of the tile as possible are utilized.
  • Gold Strategy: Set prices to fund your landscape strategy effectively!

End of the Game

After the specified number of rounds, the player with the most victory points wins. In the event of a tie, the remaining gold reserves decide the winner.

"Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King" offers a mix of strategic thinking and tactical flexibility, perfect for players looking for a challenge!
