Objective of the Game
In Trans Europa, the objective is to build railway connections and be the first player to connect five predetermined cities in Europe. The player who completes this task first wins the round. Several rounds are played, and the player with the fewest penalty points at the end of the game is the winner.
Game Components
- Game Board: Displays a map of Europe with numerous cities and possible rail connections.
- City Cards: There are cards for each city depicted on the game board.
- Wooden Tracks: These represent the railway tracks players build.
- Scoreboard: Shows the players' scores.
- Markers for the score track.
Setup
- Each player receives a set of five random city cards, which they keep face-down.
- Each player receives a specific number of wooden tracks (depending on the number of players).
- The scoreboard is provided, and each player's score counter is set to the starting position.
- The game board is placed in the center of the table.
Game Play
-
Start: At the beginning of a round, each player draws five city cards from the shuffled deck. The goal is to connect these five cities with a continuous network of tracks.
-
Turns: On each turn, a player can either build a new route or use an existing route to get closer to their goal.
- Building a route: In one turn, a player can build up to two track segments. Mountain connections cost both actions for the turn.
-
Placement: Each connection can be used by all players, regardless of who initially built it.
-
Round Victory: As soon as a player connects all five of their cities, the round ends immediately.
-
Scoring: Other players count the tracks they still need to finish the round and convert this number into penalty points, which are recorded on the scoreboard.
-
Each unused track segment counts as one penalty point.
-
Next Round: Cards are reshuffled and redistributed, and the next round begins. Wooden tracks are returned, and new cities are announced.
End of the Game
The game ends once a player reaches a certain number of penalty points (typically 20 points). The player with the fewest penalty points is the winner.
Strategic Tips
- Planning: Try to build your tracks so they can be flexibly used in future turns.
- Cooperation: Utilize other players' tracks to save your own.
- Anticipation: Keep an eye on other players' tracks to anticipate and possibly block their plans.
Best of luck and enjoy connecting Europe's metropolises efficiently!
