Astrotime is a social board game where players take on the role of astronauts traveling through space to discover planets and complete scientific missions. The objective of the game is to earn the most victory points by completing missions and discovering planets within a set number of rounds.

Setup

  • Set up the game board: Place the game board in the center of the table. Position all planet markers face down on the corresponding spaces.
  • Choose player markers: Each player chooses a color and receives the corresponding astronaut and spaceship marker.
  • Mission cards: Shuffle the mission cards and deal three cards to each player. The remaining cards form the draw pile.
  • Determine the starting player: Roll a die or choose randomly to select the starting player.

Gameplay

The game is played over a series of rounds, with each player taking the following turns sequentially:

  1. Move: Roll the space dice to determine the number of spaces you can move your spaceship on the board. You may move horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
  2. Discover a planet: If you land on a face-down planet marker, reveal it. Receive rewards or penalties based on the type of planet.
  3. Perform a mission: Execute one of your mission cards if you meet the requirements. Each card outlines a specific task that must be completed to earn points.
  4. Draw: At the end of your turn, draw a new mission card to replenish your hand back to three cards.

Special Features and Strategies

  • Secret Missions: Some mission cards offer bonuses for secret tasks revealed at the end of the game. Consider how to complete these tasks discreetly during play.
  • Planet Modifiers: Certain planets possess special features like increased movement costs or extra points. Consider these when selecting your mission targets.
  • Space Stations: Players may choose to skip a round to upgrade their spacecraft's performance at space stations.

End of Game

The game concludes after a set number of rounds (for example, 10 rounds), or when a player completes all their missions. Each player then counts their earned points (from missions, discovered planets, and bonuses). The player with the most points wins the game.
