Objective of the game
In Raubritter, the objective is to achieve the highest number of points by strategically placing tiles, castles, and knights. Points are garnered by controlling lands, forests, and monasteries occupied by your knights.
Game Components
- Field tiles: These square tiles create the game board, depicting various landscapes such as forests, meadows, and monasteries.
- Knight figures: Each player has a number of knight figures that can be placed on the tiles to gain influence.
- Castle parts: Small parts that can be placed on certain spots to complete a castle.
Setup
- Each player chooses a color and receives the corresponding knight figures.
- The field tiles are shuffled and placed face down.
- Each player draws a starting tile and places it face up in the center of the table to form the starting area.
Gameplay
- Placing a tile: On each turn, a player draws a tile and places it adjacent to at least one existing tile. The landscapes must match: forests to forests, meadows to meadows, etc.
- Placing a knight: After placing a tile, a player can place one of their knight figures on one of the landscapes on the tile. If all knights are on the board, a knight can be repositioned.
- Using castle parts: A player can also place a castle part on a tile to lay the foundation for a new castle.
Scoring
- Forests: The larger the forest, the more points it earns. Control is gained through knights.
- Meadows: Similar to forests, but multiple players can have influence. The player with the most knights on a meadow gains the points.
- Castle: Once a castle is completely built, the player with the most influence scores points.
End Game and Victory Conditions
The game ends when all tiles have been placed. Points are then counted based on controlled landscapes and monasteries as well as completed castles. The player with the highest score wins.
Tactical Tips
- Plan Ahead: Watch other players' tiles and plan several turns in advance.
- Hold Back Knights: Don’t use up all knights too quickly. Often, it's better to place them on valuable meadows and monasteries that can increase in worth over time.
- Castle Strategies: Aim to surround castles with forests to maximize points once completed.
