Objective
The objective in Bohnanza is to plant, harvest, and sell bean cards to accumulate the most coins. The player with the most coins at the end of the game wins.
Setup
- Number of Players: 2 to 7 players
- Components: Each player receives a reference card showing different beans and their coin values.
- Shuffle the bean cards and deal five cards to each player. The remaining cards form the draw deck.
Gameplay
The game is divided into several phases, which are performed in sequence:

Draw Phase: The active player should not rearrange hand cards. It’s important to maintain the order of cards as they are dealt.

Planting Phase: The active player must plant the first bean card in their hand on one of their bean fields (two fields per player). They can optionally plant more cards, but must plant starting from the front and maintain the same bean type.

Trading and Gift Phase: The active player draws two bean cards from the deck and places them face-up. These can be traded or gifted to other players, which helps in optimizing planting opportunities. Honesty is crucial in trading, and received cards must be planted immediately, not be kept.

Harvesting and Selling Phase: The active player can choose to harvest beans from their fields to gain coins. The number of coins depends on the number of similar beans on the field, as indicated on the reference card.

Drawing Phase: At the end of the turn, the player draws three new bean cards from the deck, adding them to their hand in order received.
Unique Features and Strategic Tips
- Planting: Players must decide wisely which beans to plant as they have different values and collection strategies.
- Negotiating: Success in Bohnanza heavily depends on negotiations with others. It can be advantageous to give away unwanted beans to avoid premature harvesting.
- Field Expansion: Players can buy a third bean field for coins, expanding planting capacity and strategy.
End of Game
The game ends when the draw deck is depleted for the third time. Players count their collected coins, and the player with the most coins wins.
