Objective of the Game
Müller Matz is an entertaining dice game where players aim to collect the highest score by strategically placing dice to achieve various combinations. The main objective is to achieve specific scoring categories before other players. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
Materials
- 1 scoring pad with different categories
- 5 dice
- Pen for each player
Setup
- Each player receives a scoring pad and a pen.
- Decide on a starting player. Play proceeds in clockwise order.
Gameplay
The game is played over several rounds, with each player taking turns.
A turn consists of the following phases:
- Rolling the Dice:
- The active player rolls all five dice.
- After the first roll, the player can choose to reroll any number of dice. Up to three total rolls are permitted per turn.
-
Already achieved combinations can be set aside. The results after the third roll are final.
-
Scoring Combinations:
- The player selects a scoring category to fill on their score pad. Permissible categories include "Ones", "Twos", "Full House", and so on.
- Once a category is chosen, it must be filled according to the dice results.
-
If no meaningful combination is possible, the player must strike out a category, resulting in 0 points for that category.
-
Recording Points:
- The player records the corresponding points on their score pad.
Special Combinations:
- Ones, Twos,..., Sixes: Sum of dice showing the chosen number.
- Three of a Kind: Sum of all dice if at least three dice match.
- Four of a Kind: Sum of all dice if at least four dice match.
- Full House: 25 points for a pair combined with a three of a kind.
- Small Straight: 30 points for four consecutive numbers (4 dice in sequence).
- Large Straight: 40 points for five consecutive numbers (5 dice in sequence).
- Kniffel/Yahtzee: 50 points for five dice showing the same number.
- Chance: Sum of all five dice, no restrictions.
End of the Game
The game ends when all players have filled their score sheets. Points are tallied, and the player with the highest score wins.
Strategic Tips
- Weigh Combinations: Use your rolls wisely and consider which categories remain unfilled.
- Take Risks: Especially for a Yahtzee, taking the risk of another roll can yield high points.
- Plan Ahead: Keep in mind the potential combinations in future turns to optimize your chances.
